Suppose to be a heavier than average for tropical storms/hurricanes season. Of course, hopefully this has little direct meaning to us up here. . I thnk it's time we finally discuss who has the best marina for less then ideal situations like this. It's long overdue.

We know which marina will come to the rescue, and which one will turn boaters away...

Last year it was the end of the season and many had already been hauled out for the season so there was room for additional boats, during the season you may not be as lucky. If you are concerned about what if then you are better off being in a safe place to begin with rather then expecting others to help out in a time of need/concern.
I'm waiting for the storm to kick up and then I'm going to practice docking in the wind:)

So far a non event down here. Yes, we had some rain and a few palm fronds come down. Otherwise, not as much rain and wind as you might expect. Hopefully it doesn't strengthen.
We have another band of weather coming at us in Ft Myers now.

It looks like it's going to be a rain event here in NJ.
My wife and I are still going to the boat tomorrow for the weekend. We might get wet provisioning.

Yeah, but when it's a little windy, you have trouble docking and have boats banging into you.

Not me. I practiced during Irene. I did hear that someone with the same last name as mine in your marina could use a little more practice. Please send her out on Saturday to figure this out.

I was referring to the "universal you".

I will send her over to blue dock to practice on Saturday...

Sorry. She asked what marina she should put her boat in and I told her PBM. I have a whole peninsula for a buffer zone. Good luck.

At least she's on the other side of the dock... We'll teach her, she'll be a pro by the end of the season.

A few years ago in my last marina there was a boat on the other side of the dock then me he came in bow first right up the dock and I thought he was going to hit me, Scary to watch!!!! He slid back down the down and right out into the fairway then he decide to pull into another side and take out the water on the dock. He was a nice old man but it was time for him to retire from boating:(
I hope you have better luck with your new dock mate!

I'm afraid it's here. Just spoke to a friend who lives in central Florida and he said he got six inches of rain and some pretty heavy winds.

Weren't you already on land? Didn't a hell of a lot of boats that were where you get destroyed? Didn't you suffer damage?

So I guess you paid the "extra money" for nothing.

The season was over then now we are in mid season and I happy to be right where I am! I'm not seeking shelter or even thinking about it I may add a few extra lines but that's all.

Heading up to boat to relax, have a cup of coffee and puff on a vapor cigar. No storm worries within the protected cove we simply refer to as the deep water resort on the Hudson.

I'm heading to work should get home by 3am with a little luck I can spend the day on the boat tomorrow and work on projects. My new Rogue Wave antenna is due in tomorrow as well as a water pump for my generator. I'm sure I can come up with a few more projects to work on.

For us, the season is only 1/4 over, but I know that HM kicks you out early (unless you want to pay more). I don't feel the need to add more lines, I guess you get worse weather where you are.

Hopefully this is the non event for you folks that it was for us in Ft. Myers. One of the boats here clocked 38 knots of wind but that was gusty stuff not sustained.
We had a good "wind tide" that made it tough to get onto Freedom but otherwise all is well. I am thinking the affects on the Hudson should be minimal if things don't escalate.

Thanks for great coffee!!
What's up with Irene, Sandy and Andrea? Normally I would be ok with these female names on my boat!

This rain sucks I plan on working both from and on the boat today and this is one of the few times where the walk bothers me! I guess this is why I keep an umbrella in the car. Today I plan to tweak the cameras on board and run a wire for the new Rogue maybe even install the new pump for the generator if it comes in early enough if not that will be tomorrow.
So much time so little to do:) It feels good to be able to say this! My to do list is getting smaller I will have to start making a new list add things like cleaning and touching up my motors.

The predictions for the Rondout don't look too bad at this point. Interesting, but not serious anyway. The creek will be moving along! Maybe the team from Liberty Landing will head North to duck the storm

http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=aly&gage=rosn6&hydro_type=0

Projected to crest at 15.5 feet. Not even the action stage.

We had a damaging tornado in nearby Fernandina Beach. About 35 miles south, we had heavy rain (but not all that long) and moderate wind. But I know you guys are thinking "Enough" and "Not Again."

Based on the past 2 hurricanes we have learned there is no reason to run from Liberty Landing. More important is to get your car out of the parking lots as many of those left behind during Sandy floated away.

Not saying LL had no damage as they did but the docks and boats in the water faired very well with little to no damage. Damage was primarily the dock houses and boats blocked on land.

So for those that get kicked from Haverstraw during the next hurricane where Wheeler feels the docks are more important than customers come on down river and ride it out in a canal with VERY tall pilings.

Was out today and no debris. River was very clean. The tide during the storm wasn't much higher than normal. No wood in the road on Hudson drive between Belle Harbor and the Penny Bridge. Only 5 boats at Croton Point and the water was 72 degrees and calm. Gonna be a slow season over there I suspect.

Rommer how big where the boats that were asked to leave HM because I don't know of anyone that was asked to leave I heard that the large yachts such as something too big for them to haul here where ask to find a safe place but other then a couple of boats I haven't heard anything such as you describe but if this is true I would like to know so I can be prepared in such an event.

Hi Judy,
Thank you for the compliment on our '85 Chris Craft. The name on this boat is Escaped and we have owned her for 25 years this year. This was our first boat we purchased and now our kids are enjoying her.

The predictions were lowered to 12 feet as I recall so I am thinking the creek was moving briskly and had some debris. We're in Florida now. But we kept a boat on the creek for 20 years and got to know what it is capable of. Like back in 2005 when Freedom almost floated off the stands.

Does anyone know what's going on at the Catskill Marina? Is it operational after Sandy? I know it had been devastated.

Just heard from someone who went to Newburgh today that there is lots of debris in the water up there. We went north to the Bear Mountain bridge and saw maybe 4 pieces total. Hopefully by next weekend it's all past us.

We were there all day I was working on projects like my new Rogue antenna and amplifying my camera outputs. I even spent the night never heard drive thru. I also went for a ride on a friends boat he finally got launch yesterday and we went out for a shake down cruise then he spent a night in HM before heading out this morning to his home port of Cos Cop CT. The boat ran great and it was nice to go for the ride glad to hear you made it home safely, have a great summer!
