Anyone ever make a Bimini trip in a CC w/single OB from FL? Its an offshore model with plenty of freeboard, cruises around 26-28 knots.

Thanks.

Weather is key.

Go with a buddy boat if possible.

Pick the weather With a window long enough to get back. In winter watch for cold fronts creating northerlies or East Northerlies which kick up the stream. Pretty much anything over 10 kts and north of 80 degrees is nogo

Buddy boats may feel good but unless the buddies are dedicated and equipped for towing there isnt much that can be done. An EPIRB and a sea anchor (even jury rigged) to keep the bow into waves are critical And check these bilge pumps before the trip especially if they are the standard equipment little aquarium pumps

Years ago when we updated the dink I was considering a single OB CC. BoatUS would not insure it in the Bahamas and that was prior the storms. They wanted twins. That may have been the underwriter that day though. Check your insurance and tow package. We used Gold.

Pascal, excellent info. The buddy boat will be a 38 Pursuit with triple 350 HP OBs.

Dan, good call on insurance. I have coverage for Bahamas, will verify the single engine coverage. Probably gonna do it next spring, early summer, weather permitting of course.

May June July are the best months with calmer seas. Just watch for thunderstorms building up in summer but you can pick them up radar and plan ahead.

Make sure the radio and antenna are well matched with an SWR gauge. Hopefully you can keep up with the buddy LOL. But bring the usual spares along. Impeller, fuel filters, tools etc..

Each boat has radar & 2 VHFs. Flares and spare parts. Ill have to get an EPIRB, Wally has everything already.
Yep, keeping up with him wont happen, hoping to keep him in sight , or at least in radio range.

Funny about keeping up. My club trip is billed as a group crossing. 30 boats leave Hillsboro inlet at the same time. Well, the guys that can run at 50 mph run at 50mph and so on. Fairly soon you are with very few boats.

And when you get there, they are all still waiting on the vessel check in line.

Bruce you might consider a SPOT locator and a personal locator you can clip onto a vest.

Ill add SPOT to the list, thanks.

Yes, Bob may have done it, but I needed expert opinions. :-)
